Welcome to the team!
Onboarding
You will be asked to complete several onboarding steps upon joining the team.
Taskbird signup/set availability
Fill out and return W9/Quickbooks profile setup
Sign/return Welcome packet (via Docusign)
Log into our website to review property pay schedule/pay periods
Get familiar with the Taskbird scheduling app/review notes on your first job
You will also be sent a blank invoice form for you to fill out bi-weekly (See “Pay” section below), and a list of our pay periods.
Taskbird App
You will be sent an invitation to join the team on the Taskbird app via your personal email. Please be sure to use the link sent as this will set you to our team. Once on the team, please start by setting your availability. On days you are available, you will be sent jobs or tasks. The app has all the necessary property info such as address, key codes, lock box locations, inventory lists, and to do lists for that property.
Once you are assigned your first task, please look around the app and get familiar with it.
Some jobs will have a mandatory checklist that needs to be completed at the property. In order to be able to complete the task (and be paid), you will need to complete the checklist while on site. These checklists sometimes require photos of the requested task having been completed.
Please attempt to log in to the property’s Wi-Fi while at your cleaning which helps the app run smoother. If you have any issues with the app, Taskbird has its’ own help desk with online chat help available during cleaning times. Feel free to report any app issues directly to Taskbird help desk.
Pictures
Our cleaners are expected to report how they found the property and how they left it. The best way to do this is by taking an abundance of before and after pictures. Pictures can be uploaded onto the Taskbird app under teammate images.
Take a picture of each room as you arrive and again before you leave - but also consider taking close-up pics of trouble areas and how much it improved because of your hard work.
Remember, many owners are out of state and many property managers don’t have time to see each property every time someone checks out. The pictures you submit are the only way they will see how the guests left the house and how hard you worked to clean it. Please also see “Pay” and “Guest Feedback” sections below.
Cleaning Supplies
As an independent contractor, you will be required to provide your own cleaning supplies. While you can decide what specific products you use, we recommend using as many light-scented or non-scented products as possible as some guests are sensitive to chemicals and strong smells. We ask that you don’t use Fabuloso however, per our customers’ requests.
These cleaning supplies include your own broom, mop, and vacuum. While most properties have brooms/dustpans/vacuums on site, please don’t rely on that. - In fact, many of our property managers ask we do NOT use their vacuum and mop so they can stay fresh for guests’ use. Please note: if you use the vacuum located at the property, you must empty it prior to leaving.
While it up to you what tools you use, if you would like a list of suggested cleaning supplies, please ask.
Hours
While we don’t require you to arrive at an exact time, we do expect most jobs to be completed within 3 or 4 hours, which is the check-out, check-in window. The earliest possible start time will be indicated in the app for each job/task. While we usually know whether or not the next guest arrives the same day, there could always be a last-minute booking. For this reason, we want to try to complete the cleaning as early as possible. We pay a flat rate per property. It may be tempting rush through the cleaning to maximize your hourly pay. Instead, please take your time. We will not be able to schedule you any longer if you receive numerous complaints – especially if you clocked out of the job early and did a poor job and receive a complaint.
We do log complaints and last minute call-ins. The best way to get more work is to show up at a good time, do a good job, and take many pictures. Its that easy.
Arriving on Site
Check property notes on Taskbird before arriving on site. Some properties have specific instructions on where to park to avoid a parking ticket, or unique entry instructions. You will also find instructions here on what to wash on site and where the backstock supplies are located.
As an independent contractor, you can bring someone with you to help complete tasks, but please know that you are responsible for completing the task. The pay would remain the same and you would have to work out payment to your helper (sub-contractor). If you have someone helping regularly, please advise us so we can schedule you larger, higher-paying properties.
We now require our contractor to be present at the property during the cleaning – meaning you are not permitted to hire someone to clean it for you while you are not there. While this seems like a good way to take on more jobs, it seems to negatively affect cleaning quality and has led to communication issues and owner/guest complaints.
Please be sure you are on site with your helper (if you have one) to ensure the job is done correctly and to our standards. Failure to do so will result in you being removed as a contractor for us.
Many of our customers prefer not to have children at the property with the cleaners because of the risk involved with stairs, hot tubs, pools, etc. Please advise if you have to bring a child and we will see if it is allowed at the property you are scheduled at. In general, you wouldn’t see a plumber bring a small child with him to your house to make a repair so you should try to avoid bringing a child to your cleaning. Some owners watch cameras. Some have nosey neighbors. Some stop by themselves randomly though that’s not a regular occurrence.
When you arrive, please make sure you start the task. Many property managers are watching the app and want to see we are on site and have begun the task so they can rest easy.

Laundry
The property notes will inform you on how to proceed with laundry. Some properties have laundry service that pics up the bedding while you wash towels on site. Most properties though require that you wash everything on site.
When you come upon a stain, the first step is to report it on the app as well as text us your location, and the item that was stained along with a picture. The next step is to treat it with stain remover and attempt to wash it (if this is a laundry service, create it and then send it back with the laundry service after reporting it).
If the stain doesn’t come out, report that to us via text, place the item in a kitchen trash bag, and write on it in marker “Stained” along with today’s date. Then place the bag in backstock. We will contact the owner or property manager and decide what they want done with it after that.
DO NOT bag up dirty towels or linens and put them in backstock to avoid washing them! This will cause you to no longer receive work with us as it passes work onto the next cleaner and can cause shortages in the future on same day turnovers.
Found Property
If you locate items that a guest or previous tenant left behind, these are not free items. Please report immediately via text. If the owner or property manager instructs us to remove from the property then we will determine if the cleaner can take the item, but most often, this is not the case. Usually the guest will return for the item or ask that we ship it to them. In other cases the property manager or owner picks up the item.
The exception to this rule: At some properties, the notes will instruct the cleaner to throw away any food items left behind. Those items would be free to take home with you.
Our cleaners often are asked to perform move-out or make-ready cleanings. At times these homes have items let by previous tenants. Again, these are NOT free items to take. If we learn of an item removed from any property without permission you will immediately be removed from the team permanently.
Re-Stocking
As part of the task, you will be asked to stock the house for the next guest. Some properties have a locked backstock closet, while others ask us to bring re-stocking supplies with us. We will provide these supplies. Let us know when you are running low. At properties that provide re-stocking supplies, let us know when something is running low in the backstock closet so it can be re-filled.
----------
Below is a typical list of what needs to be re-stocked regularly:
2 Full rolls of paper towels – if there is a partial roll on the dispenser, remove it and replace it with a full roll. Place 2nd roll in kitchen cabinet (usually under kitchen sink)
4 Full rolls of toilet paper per bathroom – same procedure as paper towels. Full roll on the dispenser and 3 rolls under sink in each bathroom
Coffee filters – Usually go in a kitchen cabinet near coffee maker. Make sure there is enough – restock as needed.
Dishwasher Detergent – Make sure there are at least 6 or 8 pods under kitchen sink
Hand soap at each sink – Each sink (kitchen and bathrooms) get a hand soap, If not 3/4th or more full, replace with new. If owner has hand soap in decorative dispenser bottle, make sure if is full or near-full.
Liquid dish soap – Make sure there is a full or near-full bottle of dish soap under sink. If owner has dish soap in decorative dispenser bottle on counter, make sure it is full or near-full.
New wrapped sponge – Throw out open sponges and place a new, wrapped sponge under sink.
Shampoo/Conditioner/Body wash You should have 3 different travel-sized bottles in your inventory. Place one of each in bathtub/shower area in the shape of a triangle with logos facing out and with the orange bottle in front. If bottles were left behind and are not full, toss them and replace with new.
Trash bags – There should be a box of kitchen trash bags under kitchen sink. If low or empty, leave a box.
Laundry soap – Usually kept in cabinet above or near washer and dryer. Make sure there is a full or nearly full Tide liquid laundry soap for guest.
Fabric Softener – Make sure there are enough fabric softener sheets. If low, leave a box in laundry room cabinet.
--------------
While we are able to drop supplies off to you at times, at other times you will be asked to pick up supplies from our storage unit. You will be emailed the entry instructions prior to your first task that requires these supplies.
The alternate option is for you to purchase the items yourself (most are available at Dollar Tree) and text us the receipt and you will be reimbursed on your next check. Please ask if you would like a more detailed list of items to purchase.
Reporting problems at property
If you find any problems at the property (ie: something broken), please report it on the Taskbird app under “Report a Problem”. If it is something that requires a more urgent response like a water leak, report it immediately via text or phone call to Jeremy (920)420-1392 or Rebecca (920)420-4129. If there is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
There is also a notes section if you want to add a note. Please be advised, this note will also go DIRECTLY TO THE OWNER/PROPERTY MANAGER so please keep that in mind.
Please note that if you break something while cleaning you need to text us to report it. In most cases you WILL be responsible for the cost of the broken item and the amount due to replace/repair will be deducted from your next check.
Checklists/Completing Tasks
As mentioned above, many tasks have a mandatory checklist and required pictures in order to complete the task.
**Please advise us via text if your task does not have a checklist. Unfortunately, we have to manually attach the checklists each time and some do get missed from time to time. At times, new properties may not yet have a checklist. Please ask and we will advise you.
If there is no checklist available, we will ask you to take many pictures instead.
If you fail to complete the checklist, fail to obtain the necessary pictures, or fail to complete the cleaning to the owner’s or property managers’ satisfaction, you could be asked to return to the property and complete it/correct it. Other times it will be completed for you, but you will likely not be scheduled to this property again. As mentioned previously, multiple guest complaints will result in you no longer being scheduled/ Please see more on this in “Guest Feedback” section below.
Excessively Dirty/Pet Hair/Party cleanup Policy
If you arrive at a property and notice it is excessively dirty or there is excessive pet hair, please report in task notes but also text us right away. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU TAKE MANY PICTURES OF THIS. The owner/property manager will use these pictures and the notes to charge the previous guest. This is how we get paid more and can pass that on to cleaners. Once you report it, we will immediately work with the customer to get approval for additional pay. Once approved, we will edit the title of your task as a reminder to you to charge more for that property on your invoice. Please DO NOT close out the task when we have extra pay pending approval as this will make it impossible to update the task on our end. If you have any questions about extra pay or closing the task, please ask.
Please note that most of the time extra pay for cleaners facing an excessively dirty property is quickly approved as our customers trust our judgment and just want the house to be ready for the next guest. However, we can’t assume it will be approved until it is. If you ever are facing a property that you don’t feel you can handle, please let us know. We can usually send help or extend your cleaning to a 2nd day whenever the schedule allows. As an independent contractor, you can always refuse the work but please know this could affect how/if we use your services in the future as we are not required to continue sending you work.
The amount of the extra pay depends on the circumstances. Our base pay for excessively dirty/excessive pet hair/party clean up is $25. This is pay for extra work within the given time frame for this cleaning. For example, if the cleaning is scheduled for 11am - 3pm and you are done by 3pm, this would pay an extra $25 (after approval). We add on an additional $25 for every hour of cleaning beyond the set end time.
Pay
You will be paid a flat rate per property. Pay is based on square footage of property, not time at the job and not on how many bedrooms there are. The pay for each property will be listed on our website. You will be emailed the URL and the password. Please bookmark this page as you will be referring to it often.
Some properties are quite large and require more than one cleaner (especially on a same day turnaround). You are welcome to bring your own help, but you would be responsible for paying that person out of your earnings. On the other hand, if we schedule you with other cleaners at a property, this means the property pay will be split between the cleaners. Please notify us or simply 'ask to be removed' via the Taskbird app if you do not agree with this arrangement.
On most properties, you will be working alone and keeping the full amount.
You will need to submit an invoice via email to Fairydustercleaning@outlook.com by the end of the pay period.
Pay days are usually the 15th and 30th of each month. The deadline to submit your invoice will usually be a few days prior to pay dates. You will receive the pay dates as an attachment on your onboarding email. Alternatively, the pay periods are on our cleaner log in page on our website (more info below).
We won’t be able to pay you until you submit an invoice.
Another option is to request your invoice be completed for you by Fairy Duster. There is a $25 fee for this service which will be deducted from your pay.
You received an onboarding email with a blank invoice along with the instructions on how to fill out and submit your invoices. Prices for each property/task are at:
Cleaning Prices — Fairy Duster Cleaning
Contact us for the password.
Don’t forget to look at the titles of each property to make sure you are billing for approved extra pay (as described in the previous section). Please ask us if you have any questions.
We are always looking to negotiate higher pay for our cleaners. The best way for you to make more money is to do a good job - which allows us to request a higher pay from the owners/property managers.
We currently pay our contractors via paper checks. You have the option to pick up your check on the 15th and 30th of each month or we can also mail it if you prefer. However, we will not be able to switch back and forth between mailing and pickup. In order for them to reach you by payday, we have to mail out several days prior. Please let us know if you prefer to pickup or have mailed.
Scheduling
We assign properties based on cleaners’ availability and ability to complete the task. Some cleaners have more experience and can handle larger properties. Other factors that could affect your scheduling are whether or not you are dependable, and if you receive complaints from guests or property managers/owners.
Please keep your availability updated on the app.
While performance, availability, and dependability affect how often you receive tasks, demand also plays a part in your scheduling. We are not obligated to provide you with steady income. There are slower seasons and busy seasons, and we cannot guarantee daily work. We will do our best to keep you busy though as long as you show up and do a good job.
All cleaners will be added to a group text chat - where, at times, we post last minute cleaning opportunities. Please check your texts often if you are looking for more work.
Guest Feedback
We regularly monitor guest reviews and complaints that reference cleanliness.
If we receive negative feedback on the cleaning, we will communicate that to you directly. As an independent contractor, we are not responsible for your training and development, but we also know that you won’t be able to improve if you don’t receive feedback.
We realize that some guests have been known to exaggerate or even flat out lie about the state of the property to receive discounts (please see “Taking Pictures” section above), but most are honest and just want a clean place to stay in. When we receive a complaint or negative feedback, we always ask for photos and compare those directly with the photos you submitted. If you failed to submit photos of that area; it will be difficult or impossible for us to defend you.
We take guest feedback very seriously and as mentioned several times; this will directly affect your future schedule.
In extreme cases, we could ask you to return to complete anything you may have missed if time allows. Also please see the “Inspections” section below for more on this.
Please take pride in your work and help us remain the best cleaning company in Tucson!
Inspections
Your property may be inspected by the property manager, owner, host, or by Fairy Duster staff themselves.
As with guest feedback, inspection results are taken seriously and will affect your future schedule. We always come to you directly with any complaints or concerns so you can improve.
As mentioned above, in extreme cases, we could ask you to return to complete anything you may have missed if time allows. Also in extreme cases, your pay for that property could be docked for failing to complete the task properly.
We recently started using our own quality control person. We pay this person to make the trip and walk thru the property. If they need to spend time cleaning things the cleaner missed, her time will be paid for out of the contractor’s pay for that property at a rate of $30/hr. This doesn’t mean we will dock your pay for every little thing. We realize everyone is human and may miss something now and then, but if the quality control person is spending a significant amount of time re-cleaning or re-organizing things at your property, we will let you know. the first sixty (6) minutes of her making corrections will result in $30 being removed from your pay for that property. Sixty-one (61) minutes to 120 minutes would be $60, and so on.
Our goal is to never have to deduct pay from the cleaners, but please know that this money is going directly to the cleaner responsible for completing the job correctly, not to Fairy Duster.
As mentioned above, in some cases we will ask the cleaner to return to complete the task correctly. In these cases, you won’t be paid for your return trip, but you also will not be docked any pay. Depending on the customers’ preferences and the property schedule, this may or may not be an option.
Missing Work/Calling in
If your availability is open and you do not request removal from a task, it means you have accepted the task and will complete it within the specified time frame. It is not our responsibility to remind you of the task or to call and wake you up. If you do not show up for a task, we will immediately remove you from the team and no longer consider you for future opportunities.
If you have an emergency and cannot complete the task, please give us as much notice as possible.
Please keep in mind that we are not obligated to continue scheduling you if you prove not to be dependable. It can be difficult to find last minute coverage for tasks – especially during the busy season. We understand that sometimes things happen that prevent us from being able to work, but dependability is of high value to us, and we will consider that when scheduling jobs.
Being Removed From a Task
There are several reasons why you could be removed from a Task. The most likely reason is that the guest extended their stay. Unfortunately, we aren’t always informed that this is happening and only find out when the task disappears. Always feel free to ask for more information if you are removed. There have been times when the task was accidentally removed by a property manager causing us to have to re-create it. It never hurts to ask.
Another reason you may be removed is because a new task was added we felt you were a better fit for. We always try to switch you to an equal or higher-paying task when this happens but cannot guarantee that.
You can also ask to be removed from any task through the Taskbird app. As an independent contractor, you ultimately decide what work you will accept and what you will turn down. You will not be punished for asking to be removed from any task, for any reason. However, we do ask that you give us as much notice as possible as we will need to find coverage. Please do not ask to be removed the morning of the task. We do not require a “reason” why you asked to be removed, but we do appreciate feedback so we can make necessary adjustments. For example, if you asked to be removed from a cleaning because it is too far from your home, let us know and we can avoid scheduling you in that area.
If something happens on the morning of the task causing you not to be able to complete it, please reach out to us directly - as mentioned above. Asking to be removed via Taskbird app the day of the scheduled task will be considered a last minute call-in/cancellation.
Soliciting/Interactions
As an independent contractor, you are not permitted to contact our customers directly unless instructed to do so by Jeremy or Rebecca. Some of our cleaners own their own businesses, which is great, but please do not attempt to advertise your business at Fairy Duster tasks or attempt to secure more work for yourself through our customers. Doing so will cause you to be removed from the team immediately. This includes recording videos of yourself cleaning and posting online under another company name. If you’d like to post cleanings on social media, let us know.
At times, you will encounter property managers, owners, hosts, and other contractors (maintenance, laundry delivery, landscapers, etc) while on the job. We ask that you be polite in your interactions. Please do not ask these individuals questions about your task or address concerns or complaints with them. Your point of contact for all questions or concerns are Fairy Duster management staff only.
Maintenance Contractors
We pay our maintenance staff a $40 trip fee for arriving on property at a scheduled task. Prices for each repair are listed on our website: Maintenance Prices — Fairy Duster Cleaning . If a repair will require a higher pay, please text right away so we can get approval. It is very important that you are able to troubleshoot and problem solve to get repairs done prior to the next guest arriving.
Putting off repairs until next time, or failing to make the necessary repairs in a timely manner will cause us to use another contractor who is more efficient.
Many of the above policies apply to our maintenance contractors as well. Please keep your availability updated so we can schedule tasks as we receive them. With maintenance though, most tasks come in last minute as the cleaners discover items that need repair. If you are unable or unwilling to respond to a task, please text to let us know. Like cleaning contractors, you will be paid on the 15th and 30th of each month via check, but you will need to submit an invoice for each task you complete via email. You can use an invoicing program, or you can type them out in the email if you wish using the blank invoice form you received in your onboarding email.
When parts are needed for a job, please text the amount of the purchase and you will be sent that amount on Cashapp. If you do not have a Cashapp account, we suggest you create one. You then will need to upload a pic of the receipt to the task you are working on.
Please be sure to type out detailed notes on the task explaining what you repaired. Please also take before and after pics of repairs. These nots and pics will be sent to the customer and will explain what was done and what they are paying for. Failure to document the repairs properly will cause us to use another contractor who keeps better records.

WELCOME PACKET AGREEMENT
You have been hired by Fairy Duster Cleaning and Services, LLC as a 1099 independent contractor to perform the duties of a vacation rental cleaner.
You are expected to perform such duties as assigned by Rebecca and Jeremy and as outlined in welcome packet above. By signing below, you agree to abide by instructions in this packet.
Your normal work window will be Monday-Sunday between 10am and 4pm - with some tasks starting at 11am and some ending at 3pm. It is possible to work later depending on how many properties you have that day, and how quickly you complete them. You may also be able to start tasks earlier at times and will be notified when that is an option.
As an independent contractor, we do not provide worker’s compensation or benefits. Your relationship with Fairy Duster Cleaning is “employment at will”. This means that you are free to resign at any time, and likewise, we can stop assigning you tasks at any time. It also means you will not be eligible for unemployment compensation should you stop receiving tasks. You are responsible for paying taxes on your own as taxes will not be withheld from your pay unless you request this option.
